Whole Foods shoppers, at least those in the Dallas, Texas area, will soon be able to pay for their groceries by scanning their palms during checkout, thanks to Amazon’s newest biometrically secure payment processing system, Amazon One.
The technology is rolling out to Highland Village and Irving stores shortly, with the remaining Dallas region stores set to receive the technology by the end of the year.

We referred to the Amazon One website to learn how this new system works.
“Amazon One’s customized hardware captures the minute characteristics of your palm – both surface-area details like lines and ridges as well as subcutaneous features such as vein patterns – to create your palm signature.”
Regarding customer safety, “Customer trust is our top priority. We treat your palm signature just like other highly sensitive personal data and keep it safe using best-in-class technical and physical security controls.”
“Your palm data is used to generate your unique palm signature and to confirm your identity when you use Amazon One. Your information is not stored on an Amazon One device and is protected at all times, both at rest and in-transit.”
This next-generation payment system is already available in other Whole Foods locations in Austin, Texas, California, New York, and Seattle, Washington. The system can also be found at the Hudson Nonstop stores within the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport and Love Field Airport.
